Powdersville is not an actual city or town in South Carolina, but it's a place. All local residents know it as Powdersville. It is categorized as a "census-designated place" and I completely know what that means. Actually, (since I looked it up on Wikipedia I do) It is a concentration of population identified by the US Census Bureau (isn't the internet great). In 2008 the post office began allowing "Powdersville" to be used for mail delivery to zip codes 29611, 29642 and 29673 for the Greenville, Easley and Piedmont areas of Powdersville.
Powdersville, the peaceful bedroom community just outside of Greenville but in Anderson County has been quietly adding commercial development along Highway 153 for several years. However, they are getting ready for a more serious impact with a Walmart coming this spring to Siloam Road which is near the main intersection of Highways 81 and 153. Powdersville is tucked in around Highway 153 which serves as a connector road between Interstate 85 and Easley. While Anderson County sounds far away from Greenville’s downtown, there are several routes that can take you there in less than 15 minutes, which gives home buyers an alternative to the more condensed Greenville County. The area has a distinct rural flavor with nice rolling pastures scattered around a limited amount of subdivisions, giving it a small town feel. Schools in Powdersville are popular as well, and the area has attracted many families because of the top notch Wren Schools and the brand new Powdersville High School. The area has also a mid-way point for families where one spouse works at Clemson University and the other works in Greenville.
Another recent addition to Powdersville is the arrival of the Powdersville Medical Center, which opens Jan 29th 2013 on McNeely Road off Hwy 81 and 153. The 34 acre campus is a collaboration between the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center and Baptist Easley Hospital, housing a MD360 urgent-care center, Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, Proaxis Therapy as well as some specialty surgeons from the GHS system.
One advantage Powdersville has is that it has lake homes near Greenville, SC. The neighborhood of Birch River actually has a small fishing lake and is close to the Saluda River. Lake Keowee and Hartwell are also 10-20 minutes away anywhere in Powdersville, SC.
